Apr 12, 2019 To bypass the BST sensor two small wires that go to the BST sensor (near battery positive terminal) are shorted with a resistor. A 2-ohm resistor is installed at the end of the wires bypassing the BST sensor. This will emulate a working BMW sensor and the airbag light codes are reset using a BMW scanner. This solution is not recommended.

I was in a very minor accident, but the air bags did deploy. The car would not start, and I had to have it towed. I would not have been happy had I been out in the middle of nowhere. I found this post on another site, and thought I would share it in case anyone is ever in the same situation. It would have a lot easier on me had I been able to start the car. Here is the post:
All newer model BMWs (since E38 i believe) have a BST (battery safety terminal) which will disconnect the battery from the starter and alternator in the event of a crash. This is to prevent the positive battery cable shorting against anything if it is damaged in a crash which could lead to a fire. It is a safety item. You can simply push the cable back into the socket and this will allow you to start the car. It will need to be replaced as it will set a fault in the MRS (airbag module) and the airbag light will remain on until it is replaced.

BST problem on e90 3er. Hello, I've got error code 93A9 (Battery Safety Terminal). I know it's the reason for Airbag light on instrument cluster. Is there anybody who can give me some advice how to make a bypass please ? Any help would be appreciated. |

RE: BST problem on e90 3er. 2.2 Ohm resistor should be fine for that. Unplug the BST and put the resistor across the harness side plug. If someone took the time to help you, the least you can do is take a few seconds and press two buttons! |
